Therefore, it takes about two hours by car to get to Ipoh from the nation’s capital.

Do You Love Malaysian Cuisine?

If you are a foodie, you will love your visit to Ipoh, as the provincial city is known for its delicious cuisine. Therefore, you are in for a treat – one which your taste buds will thank you for. Ipoh, which is the capital city of the state of Perak, has a population of just over 655,000 people. It is the third largest city in Malaysia by population.

A Little Bit about the History

Ipoh sprang up from a village when it began to expand rapidly in the late nineteenth century. That is when large deposits of tin were discovered in the area. The village-turned-city was officially recognised as a city in 1988. However, the depletion of the tin deposits caused Ipoh to go into decline after a reduction in tin prices during the 1970’s.

In recent times, Ipoh has emerged as a popular tourist destination – one that also features the best boutique hotel in Ipoh Town Perak. Officials have lured tourists to the city by emphasising some of the area’s British colonial architecture. In addition, tourists can also enjoy natural attractions such as limestone caves – some of which feature Buddhist temples. Ipoh is also one of the cleanest locations in Malaysia.

The Weather in Ipoh

Like all of Malaysia, Ipoh’s climate is a rainforest climate – one where the temperatures stay about the same year-round. Usually, the average temperature hovers around 28 degrees Celsius. The city also has about 200 millimetres of rain monthly. The rainiest month is October, whilst the driest month is January.

Kek Lok Tong

If you choose to visit the area’s limestone caves, you will not want to miss a visit to Kek Lok Tong. The cave can be accessed by way of the Gunung Rapat housing section. You can also find other cave temples in Ipoh, such as the following:

  • Ling Sen Tong
  • Perak Tong
  • Nan Tian Tong
  • Kwan Yin Tong

You can find many caves in the limestone hills in the area. Gua Tempurung, which is south of Ipoh, is a popular attraction for spelunkers. Over three kilometres long, it is known as one of the longest caves in the country. Part of the site features walkways and electric lighting.
